If you really love her, you kill her

“I’m just a killer for your love” - Blur

I found myself falling into pretty much two types of songs for this one: Man kills woman for cheating/revenge, or some weird family revenge/twisted family killing thing. I chose to include songs based on familial love, not just love-love, because those make for some interesting lyrics. Interesting to note that almost all lyrical cheating killings I could think of involved women being murdered. Have a great Valentine’s Day of Death - Tina

O Valencia! - The Decemberists: This was a pretty easy one.

Buenos Noches from a Lonely Room (She Wore Red Dresses) - Dwight Yoakam: I don’t mind country music and Yoakam is one of the reasons.

Jack Killed Mom - Jenny Lewis: I haven’t been able to stop listening to “Acid Tongue” for a while, so I wanted to include this.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - Vicki Lawrence: There is a version of this that Reba McEntire sings and I can’t stand it; the original is by Vicki Lawrence, who was Mama on “Mama’s Family.”

Black - Okkervil River: He sings about how he would kill the guy if he could, so I think that counts.

Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix: It’s Jimi Hendrix!

Shit, Damn, Motherfucker - D’Angelo: This song is pretty funky and smooth, an interesting combination with the lyrics. I used to listen to this because of my predilection for hip-hop and R&B when I was in middle school and some of high school; unlike Mace, I can still listen to D’Angelo every once in a while.

Yeah! Oh, Yeah! - The Magnetic Fields: Stephin Merritt looks pretty short.

Country Death Song - Violent Femmes: I started listening to the band because they’re from Wisconsin.

Where the Wild Roses Grow - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: It’s with Kylie Minogue, almost a good enough reason to put it on any list!

The Payback - James Brown: Also someone who should be on every list ever.

Nebraska - Bruce Springsteen: May not exactly fit the lyric/category, but hey, it’s Springsteen, who’s going to complain?

The Mariner’s Revenge Song - The Decemberists: Sorry for Double Decemberists Posts, but I was reaching toward the end.
